ELK Digital (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs this website at elkdigital.co.uk. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and what your rights are. We are the data controller. If you have any questions, email hello@elkdigital.co.uk.

What we collect and why

  • When you contact us. If you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address and whatever you include in your message, so we can reply and discuss your project. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries, and taking steps to enter into a contract if you go on to become a client.
  • Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser). This is aggregated and helps us improve the site. Lawful basis: your consent where required, otherwise our legitimate interest in measuring and improving our own website.
  • Technical and security data. As with most websites, our server and content-delivery network record technical information such as your IP address and browser in order to deliver pages and keep the site secure. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. Essential cookies help the site work. Analytics cookies (set by Google Analytics) help us measure usage. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser opt-out add-on.

Who we share it with

We use a few trusted providers to run the site. They process data on our behalf, under contract, and only as needed to provide their service:

  • Our web host — stores the website and its server logs.
  • Bunny.net — a content-delivery network that serves images, video and other assets quickly and securely.
  • Google Analytics — website usage analytics.
  • ZeptoMail — delivers the email generated when you submit our contact form.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, it is covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry emails for as long as we need them for the conversation or working relationship, and then delete them. Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics’ own retention settings. Technical logs are kept only for a short period.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to: give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; or provide it in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email hello@elkdigital.co.uk and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
